A MAN who set up an £11,000 cannabis farm in the attic above a Bradford shop has been sentenced to a 12-month community order.

Jordan Harrison by-passed the electricity supply at the rented address in Brighouse Road to heat the 20 plants he was growing there, Bradford Crown Court heard on Wednesday.

Harrison, 26, of Hillcrest Drive, Queensbury Bradford, pleaded guilty to cannabis production after the premises were raided by the police on January 22.

Prosecutor Dave MacKay said the set-up would have produced 1.1 kilos of cannabis with an £11,000 street value.

Mr MacKay said there was no evidence that the drug had been supplied but there was far too much of it for just one person.

But Harrison had no lifestyle based on a high income from drugs.

His barrister, Jeremy Barton, said Harrison’s use of cannabis had got out of control.

He used it to relieve the pain he suffered from a spine condition because the strong painkillers prescribed by his doctor made him ill.

Mr Barton said that Harrison pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

He had been living alone at the time and taking anti-depressants but he was now back at his mother’s address and free from all illegal drugs.

The community order was coupled with a rehabilitation activity requirement with the probation service.
