A brave team member from H. H. Birch Co-op Funeralcare in Shipley has abseiled 60ft for charity.

Stephanie Hickman, who is raising money for Candlelighters, completed the abseil down the Michael Sandler Building at Leeds University.

The funeral arranger has totted up a grand total of £200.

Stephanie Hickman, funeral arranger at H. H Birch Co-op Funeralcare, said: "As a team we’re always looking for ways to support good causes and when the Candlelighters newsletter popped through the door promoting the opportunity to do the abseil it really caught my eye. The building in question was where I studied at university so it seemed like a real calling for me to do it.

"Candlelighters is such a worthy cause."

David Robertshaw, Funeral Director at H. H Birch Co-op Funeralcare, says; “The team are so proud of Stephanie, not all of us would be that brave and have the nerves of steel needed to complete the task. I’m sure it was a nerve-racking experience, but Stephanie handled herself like a complete pro and raised a fantastic amount of money for a really worthy cause in the process.”

Candlelighters support families facing children's cancer in Yorkshire. It is involved in many different projects to help ordinary families who are facing extraordinary circumstances.
