BARNOLDSWICK is on tenterhooks as it waits to hear if its floral displays have won favour with Britain in Bloom judges.

The town, which is resplendent with planters and displays, on the theme of climate change, was recently visited by regional judges, with results expected later in the year.

David Whipp, Barnoldswick in Bloom co-ordinator, said: “As ever, the judges were not giving anything away, but they were obviously impressed with displays in the town.

"We’ll have to wait until autumn before we get the results of the judging, but we can enjoy all the floral features in the meantime.”

Highlights of the tour included Barnoldswick’s ‘School Bloom’ planters, created in partnership with the town's primary schools, the ‘Sea Wall’ at The Rainhall Centre and the new Sensory Garden at the Memorial Gardens on Kelbrook Road.

Cllr Whipp said: “The theme of this year’s bloom displays is a call for action on the climate crisis. One display has a large banner stating “Our Planet. Cool It” and another display on the Town Square challenges apathy about the issue.

“Our massive 'sea wall' is a plea for no plastic to go into the oceans.

“We hope we can raise awareness of the crisis and stimulate more people to take action before it is too late. We think the judges got the message during their visit.”
