PATROLS have been stepped up after shots were fired at a Bradford house over the weekend.

The “extremely concerning” incident unfolded on Saturday night.

Officers were called to a property in Belmont Avenue, Low Moor, at 10.20pm to reports of a firearms discharge.

Shots had been fired at a property in the street, damaging the door of the house.

The house was occupied at the time, but no-one was injured in the incident.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said a full investigation has been launched to bring the perpetrators to justice, and reassurance patrols have been stepped up in the area.

Councillor David Warburton (Lab, Wyke), whose ward covers the area, said: “It’s alarming that in an area such as this, things like this have occurred.

“The police are working hard to investigate this and to get to the bottom of the problem and they will deal with it as quickly as they can.”

While he said it was fortunate that nobody was harmed in the incident, Cllr Warburton stressed that it was an isolated incident and said: “It’s extremely concerning and I know the police will do everything they can to investigate to get to the bottom of this problem as soon as possible.”

A number of Telegraph & Argus readers said they had heard the police helicopter in the area on Saturday night.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby (Lab, Wyke) said: “There was a firearms discharge, which is a shocking occurrence.

“Police are continuing with their enquiries at this moment and obviously we await the outcome of those enquiries.

“It’s not a regular occurrence.

“It’s something we, thank goodness, don’t see very often in and around the area.

“Rest assured, police are doing all the work to investigate this incident.

“There’s no reason why you should either have a firearm or discharge one.

“They should think of the consequences of their actions.”

Police said enquiries were continuing.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 2132 of Saturday, July 20.
