PEOPLE are being asked to volunteer to be “ambassadors” for Bradford.

Believing in Bradford, set up in 2016, is recruiting new ambassadors for the 2019-20 year. It brings together people from across Bradford District from a whole range of different backgrounds, ages, cultures and faiths. Over the course of a year they act as ambassadors for the district and represent our diverse communities at a range of events and occasions.

Councillor Doreen Lee, this year’s Lord Mayor of Bradford said, "Believing in Bradford provides people from across our district with a rich opportunity to showcase our considerable strengths and unique attributes in a very positive light.

"I welcome the group's support during my Civic year and look forward to getting to know them all. I hope they will grow as individuals and as a group as they undertake their valuable ambassadorial work."

The Right Reverend Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford, said, “Since 2016 Believing in Bradford has given people the chance to work and learn together, representing our District and developing projects and skills which will benefit Bradford. I am delighted that we will be welcoming a new group of Ambassadors in the autumn, and I look forward to getting to know them and working with them.”

Believing in Bradford Ambassadors take part in a fixed programme of four training and development events. At these events they spend time with each other, learning with and from each other, and trying together to arrive at a better understanding of the city and district.

Ambassadors support the Lord Mayor at a variety of civic events – these may include Remembrance Day and Bradford City Fire commemorations, Christmas, Eid or other faith-based events, or peace vigils which occur from time to time in response to local, national or international events.

Projects that have happened or are underway include taking part in the annual Dragon Boat Festival, a running group which is aiming to organise a community marathon, coordinating a database of stories from people from other countries who have come to call Bradford home, or celebrating the role of Women and Faith across Bradford.
