JUST one finalist from the district has made it to the British Indian Awards 2019 which are being celebrated at a ceremony in Birmingham.

Satvinder Dahri, 35, from Pudsey, is one of 300 British Indians in the UK who have been shortlisted in the 7th annual awards.

Mrs Dahri, who is sales manager at the Bradford Hotel, has worked in the hospitality industry for around 14 years.

Prior to her post at the Bradford Hotel, she worked as sales manager at the Great Victoria Hotel, and before that at the Cedar Court.

She is a finalist in the 'Rising Star' category and is up against nine other shortlisted nominees.

She said: "I am really pleased to have been shortlisted for the final, though I have no idea who nominated me. I am amazed to be the only one from Bradford in the finals. Hopefully I can fly the flag for the city."

The awards, organised by Oceanic Consulting, received hundreds of nominations throughout the country.

The organisation's chief executive Irfan Younis said: “All finalists should be proud to represent British Indians, highlighting all the wonderful achievements of this diverse and brilliant community.

"Our finalist list is full of talent and leadership, and I’m confident these awards will be the best yet.

"The awards provide a platform to thank those who do what they know best, thrive in their fields and provide future generations with inspirational role-models.”

The awards recognise a wide range of achievements and include people from the worlds of business, charity, sport, arts, culture, education and medicine.

They are designed to showcase the strength of the British Indian community, the impact they have on British culture and their progression over the last year.

Categories encompass Rising Star, Young Achiever of the Year and Best in Sport among many others.

The final takes place at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre, at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham City Centre, on Friday, July 26.
