When residents in the Hoyle Court district of Baildon went to change their library books, they found the Bradford Metropolitan District’s smart new mobile library waiting to receive them.
Resplendent in the district’s colours, the vehicle was more than 30ft. long, carrying 3,000 novels; works of reference and children’s books, with more space in which borrowers could inspect their selections.
Staffed by Mrs. F. Smith, a mobile librarian, and Mr. T. Carroll, the driver assistant. Each Monday it paid a visit to seven outlying points at Baildon.
Back in the day visiting the mobile library as it trundled into the village brought excitement for bookworms who were keen to get their hands on their next treasure.
