COUNCILLORS will decide whether to renew a series of public space protection orders at a meeting tomorrow.

A number of such orders, implemented to prevent people from anti-social drinking in city and town centres in the district, are due to expire soon.

At a meeting of Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee on Thursday morning members will be asked to renew four orders.

One order, implemented in 2016, aims to target people drinking or ingesting “intoxicating substances” in a city centre exclusion zone. It expires in October.

Members of the committee will be told that alcohol related incidents in the city centre have fallen since the order was introduced.

A report says: “There were approximately 1,190 alcohol incidents recorded by the Police in the two years since the introduction of the PSPO (1st April 17 – 31st Mar 19).

“This is a 43 per cent reduction compared to 1st Apr 15 – 31st Mar 17.”

Members will be advised to start public consultations needed to renew the order, along with orders for the centre of Keighley, Bingley, Shipley and West Bowling, and an existing dog control order.

The committee meets in Bradford City Hall at 10am.
