WORK to improve two busy junctions on the M62 motorway has been fully completed by Highways England and Leeds City Council.

The major schemes at Junction 27 for Gildersome, and Junction 28 for Tingley, began last year to improve the slip roads and roundabouts in a bid to reduce congestion.

At J27, improvements have seen the westbound exit slip road from the M62 and M621 increased to three lanes to provide extra room on the southern roundabout.

Work has now been completed at J28 to widen that junction’s westbound exit slip road from three lanes to four, and the eastbound exit slip road has been widened to three lanes.

Esref Ulas, Highways England project manager, said: “The completion of these major schemes will improve safety and ease congestion for drivers who use these busy junctions.

“We’ve addressed the important issue of congestion which had an impact on drivers, and I want to thank people for their patience.”

By improving traffic flow and reducing congestion it will also reduce emission levels, boosting air quality around the junctions.

There may be some overnight closures in the next few weeks to make the finishing touches to the improvements.
