WEST Yorkshire Police recorded the highest number of drivers exceeding 100mph in 2018, a new study has revealed.
Research by road safety charity Brake, shows that 9,000 motorists were caught travelling at speeds of more than 100mph on UK roads.
West Yorkshire Police recorded 2,252 cases of motorists going above 100mph last year, up from 345 cases in 2017.
West Yorkshire was also in the top five nationwide for the highest recorded speeds, with 157mph being recorded on the M62. The top five speeds recorded by West Yorkshire Police were all recorded on the M62.
Drivers caught speeding at over 100mph are referred to Court, where magistrates decide whether to issue a driving ban.
Joshua Harris,of Brake, said the charity is hoping to see drivers automatically banned if caught travelling at over 100mph.
