A man has been jailed after he smashed into a parked vehicle during a police chase while he was banned from driving and twice the legal alcohol limit.

Liam Pemberton, 29, was seen doing 100mph in a 30 zone on Woodside Road, Wyke, at 11.15pm on April 6, Bradford Crown Court heard.

He sped the opposite way past the officers who turned their vehicle round to give chase.

Officers followed Pemberton’s red Vauxhall Astra and ordered him to stop but he accelerated away from Odsal Top and crashed into a parked vehicle on Huddersfield Road.

Pemberton, of Ringwood Road, Canterbury, Bradford, had two intoxicated passengers in the vehicle with him, the court was told.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit, driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

Prosecutor Gerald Hendron said on Friday that both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash, with Pemberton’s car written off.

Pemberton fled the scene on foot but was caught and arrested.

John Batchelor, Pemberton’s barrister, said he was the sole carer for his two young daughters.

He was under a great deal of stress at the time and did not intend to drive that night.

Mr Batchelor asked the court to suspend the inevitable prison sentence and punish Pemberton in the community instead.

But Judge Jonathan Gibson said the offences were so serious that immediate custody was the only option.

Pemberton had failed to stop for the police and then crashed his car, endangering his passengers and other road users.

He was driving at just over twice the legal alcohol limit while banned from driving and uninsured.

Judge Gibson said the prison sentence was much shorter than it would have been if Pemberton had not had the sole care of his two young children.

Pemberton was imprisoned for four months and banned from driving for three years.
