Bingley-based STRI Group has continued its rapid global expansion with the opening of its latest design and consultancy office in Hong Kong.

STRI Hong Kong Ltd has already secured major contracts including providing the turf solution to the new multi-purpose Kai Tak Sports Park.

It will also upgrade the famous Yuen Long Stadium as a design partner as well as other significant local projects.

Peter Rasmussen, an experienced turf industry professional, has joined STRI Hong Kong as lead consultant.

The expert will be assisting the local industry using the full support of STRI’s global expertise.

STRI Hong Kong joins a global network of STRI Group companies based outside of Europe, including China, Qatar and two facilities in Australia.

The company revealed it is planning on further expansion in the near future.

STRI Hong Kong will work closely with Tizan Turf Science, found in Shanghai, who are the leading turf construction and renovation business in the region.

Lee Penrose, STRI Group director, said: "STRI continues to expand our global offering as the demand for cutting edge and sustainable sports surface solutions increases.

STRI Group first took a major step into the Chinese sports turf market in July of 2016.

It struck up an agreement with Beijing iRENA Group and Shanghai KeHua Sports Promotional Co. to improve football pitches across the country.

Mr Penrose said at the time: "Through the establishment of this unique relationship, STRI is proud to support President Xi Jinping’s vision for the growth of the Chinese football industry."

The global sports turf consultants and research specialists, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with intent to work alongside the Chinese businesses.

Shortly after the announcement Hao Qing of Shanghai KeHua Sports Promotional, said: “A future partnership with iRENA and STRI represents a significant milestone for the Chinese football industry.

"The Chinese government wants to build 60,000 new football pitches in China, so the co-operation with the world’s leading sports turf research, design and consulting company presents a significant opportunity to develop European quality football pitches locally.

"China will now be able to compete for pitch quality on an international stage”.
