THE Girlington Muslim Welfare Association (GMWA) which incorporates Masjid Umar and the Madrassah, will be holding its annual Family/Community Funday on Saturday at Whetley Academy.

The GMWA Mosque, on Durham Road in the heart of Girlington, is part way through a £1.8 million New Build project.

The aim of the day is to promote the proposed facilities that the new community building will provide to members of the public

The Executive of the GMWA explained the concept of the new build, saying: “In the prophet’s time, a Mosque was open to all members of the public, regardless of religion.

“It was used for a wide variety of events, not just to hold congregational prayers. The aim of the Fun Day is to not only allow young people to enjoy a relaxing day, but also to allow people to have a look around the new build and see what fantastic facilities will be available.

“This will truly be multi-purpose building available to all in our diverse community.”

The fun day itself will have an array of activities ranging from inflatables and fairground rides to various stalls and a pop-up restaurant.

The Bradford Literacy Network will be present, giving away free books, along with Great Horton Church Cricket club, who will be on site running cricket sessions.

The event is open to the whole community. Entrance to the Fun Day will be via Upper Woodlands Road and gates will open at 12pm, with the Fun Day running through to 7pm
