A MAN caught trying car door handles in Eccleshill in the early hours has been arrested for 14 thefts from vehicles.

Police were called to Victoria Road in Eccleshill at around 2.30am on Tuesday to reports a man was snooping around vehicles in the suburban street.

When officers arrived, the man ran off and was caught a short time later in possession of a quantity of stolen property.

Steven Hall, constable for Bradford East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The man has been further arrested on suspicion of 14 thefts from motor vehicles, vehicle interference and criminal damage.”

The suspect may have a starring role on television in the near future, as Channel 5's Police Interceptors were on the scene.

PC Ben Pearson, one of the show's most popular characters, attended the call out.

He said: "Out with the Police Interceptors crew and PC Ben Barraclough tonight.

"Call to Victoria Road area, Eccleshill, where cars were being broken into.

"Foot chase and male detained by the local sergeant. Boom!

"Suspect was still in possession of the stolen property."

Anyone who spots people acting suspiciously in their street around vehicles is urged to report the incident to police by calling 101, or 999 if it is an emergency.
