DOZENS of extra places for pupils with Special Educational Needs will be created in existing Bradford schools.

At a meeting of Bradford Council's Executive this morning, members voted to move ahead with the latest wave of plans for an extra 354 SEND places this year.

The decision means that by September pupil numbers at Oastlers Special School will rise from 94 to 134.

New provisions for SEND pupils will also be created at Princeville Primary (22 places) and Miriam Lord Primary School (12 places).

Other places will be created at several children's centres throughout the district, and a number of academies.

Members were told the decision needed to be made as soon as possible in order to prepare the places for September.

Marium Haque, Deputy Director for Education and Learning, said if the Council did not create these places, the children would have to be sent to SEND provisions outside of the district.
