City Park will be transformed into a large urban beach this summer as part of the Bradford Festival.

Nearly 40 tonnes of sand will be brought to City Park to create a 242 square metre ‘beach’ complete with classic seaside props such as striped deck chairs, colourful beach huts and comical peep through boards.

Children will be able to play with buckets and spades which will be provided and an atmospheric seascape soundtrack will recreate all the sounds of the seaside.

This year's Bradford Festival promises to be 'best yet'

The Urban Beach will open Friday - coinciding with the start of the festival, and run until the end of the month. Entry is free.

City Park’s mirror pool is currently closed for repairs following a flood in its pump room. It is due to re-open early next month while contractors work behind the scenes to repair and update the fountains system. The mirror pool will be back to full operation in November.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We are thrilled to be offering this brilliant seaside experience right in the heart of Bradford.

“It should be great fun, especially for children and young families.”
