POLICE have cordoned off an area of land on Macturk Grove and Whetley Grove in Girlington.
A reader contacted the Telegraph & Argus to say that nearby allotments had been cordoned off for the last couple of days and that forensic officers were on site.
Pictures show a long line of police tape.
When the Telegraph & Argus visited tonight, at least two or three houses were inside the cordon, which encapsulated a whole grassy area behind the old alms house on the street.
No officers were outside of their vehicles at around 6.30pm, and one unmarked white car was outside the alms house and another marked vehicle was just around the corner.
Police have been contacted for comment.
