WEST Yorkshire Police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are launching the ‘999 Community Volunteers’ scheme.

This is a new community-volunteering programme that gives members of the public the opportunity to work alongside both emergency services and make a difference to their local communities.

999 Community Volunteers will support policing and fire prevention teams across the West Yorkshire area with a wide variety of community policing and fire prevention events and initiatives.

The scheme is less formal than other types of volunteering (such as the Special Constabulary), and volunteers are under no obligation to commit to a certain number of hours.

As a 999 Community Volunteer, you could be involved in the following events and initiatives:

• Local fairs, festivals and sports events

• Community contact points, open days or other public engagement duties

• Using speed cameras in identified problem areas to improve road safety

• Assisting with role plays for multi-agency and student officer training exercises

• Crime prevention work within the community

• Supporting Safe and Well projects

• Assisting with fire and road safety education projects

• Leaflet drops

You can apply if you are aged 18 ore over, have resided in the UK for the last three years and do not have a criminal record.

An awareness event will take place at 7pm on Monday July 22 at Trafalgar House Police Station, on Nelson Street in Bradford.

To attend you must book a place by emailing: bradford.specialsvolunteers@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
