DRIVERS in Yorkshire rate themselves at almost eight out of ten for driving ability, a new survey has revealed.

The research, carried out by carwow, found drivers in the region rated their performance behind the wheel at 7.92 out of ten.

This rating is slightly higher than the national average of 7.84 out of ten.

As part of the research, drivers were asked how many road collisions they had been involved in, or if they have ever been caught speeding.

More than half - 58 per cent - said they had been involved in at least one collision since passing their test, with 44 per cent admitted they had been caught speeding at least once, nationally.

The research also found those who play video games regularly rate their driving skills a whole point higher than those who do not.

Mat Watson, motoring expert at carwow, said: “Whilst this is obviously a limited snapshot, it does showcase some extremely interesting insights.

“Those who play video games every day rate their abilities higher, but also emerged as those with the highest number of speeding tickets and collision frequency.

“This research could indicate players of driving-based games are overconfident of their motoring skills.”
