TWO brothers in business together have cycled the length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and back in memory of their late younger sibling and raised £6,000 for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in the process.

Ben and Dylan Wilson, senior figures at MPM, a fibreglass moulding firm, took on the epic challenge for their brother, Syd, who spent his final days at Sue Ryder's Oxenhope hospice before passing away in February 2019.

The cycle ride, which they undertook alongside MPM colleague John Dobbin and his friend Mark Brown, took over 20 hours there and back.

The Novotel in Liverpool even provided a picnic meal for the cycle home, which the fab four were not expecting and were therefore extremely grateful for.

Meanwhile, 2018 proved to be a challenging year for the brothers. As well as coping with Syd's illness, they suffered a devastating blow last February when a major fire burned their business to the ground.

The Leeds and Livepool canal adventure was therefore a welcome moment of light at the end of the tunnel.

Ben said: “While the cycle ride was a real challenge, it was fun and gave me a real sense of achievement.

“Our team spirit kept us going, particularly when I had to dig deep in the final run in to Leeds.

“It was an emotional ride, remembering Syd – but proud to be doing something to support all the hard work the hospice does to help families like ours in their darkest hours.”
