A PHOTOGRAPHIC exhibition was the last in a series of events marking the 71st anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush ship.
From War to Windrush highlighted the contribution of West Indian people who settled in Britain and helped to re-build the country after the Second World War.
The Empire Windrush brought one of the first large groups of post-war immigrants from the Caribbean to the UK in 1948. Bradford has been marking the anniversary with a series of Windrush Generation-themed events including music performances by local schoolchildren and choirs with national and international artists.
Photographs from the Belle Vue photographic studio in Manningham, where many people settling in the city had portraits taken, went on display, and an awards ceremony was held to honour community champions from the Windrush Generation.
Charles Dacres of the Windrush Generation Organisation in Bradford, said the events gave people chance to celebrate their communities and “a sense of belonging”.
