A teenager from Bingley is gearing up for a 46-mile cycle ride between London and Surrey in memory of his "loving mother" who died from pancreatic cancer.

16-year-old Daniel Fuller described losing his mum, Sarah, as "the hardest obstacle" he has ever faced after she battled the disease in 2016.

Pancreatic cancer is labelled as the quickest killing cancer with one in four people diagnosed with the disease dying within a month of diagnosis.

Daniel said: "Pancreatic cancer is horrible disease.

"My mum was, like so many others, unfortunate and lost her battle.

"Although I lost her at such a young age, the times I spent with her were some of the happiest times of my life and have shaped who I am today.

"I know that if my mum could see me now, seeing all the progress I’ve made, with a job in engineering and raising money for such a great cause, she would be the proudest mum in the world."

Daniel will be fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK in the charity cycle alongside his aunt Linda Madeley and nephew, James Houlton on August 4.

It's the second time Linda, 54, will take on Ride London Surrey 46 since Sarah's death.

Linda said: “As a mum in her 40s, with two young teenagers, Sarah was taken from us by pancreatic cancer far too soon."

Survival rates for pancreatic cancer haven't improved in over 40 years.

The family has set a £500 target to boost Pancreatic Cancer UK's research into finding a cure or improved treatments for the cancer.

Daniel said his mum would feel "proud".

He said: "I think that she would be proud of me for raising money for such a good cause and tell me to enjoy myself, no matter if I finish or not.

"Pancreatic cancer is something that has affected me and my family very personally and I know how tough it is. Any donations will mean so much to me."

Daniel's sister Rebecca and his dad, Paul, will be cheering the family on as they set off from the capital.

Paul said: "I will be feeling very proud - also knowing how proud Sarah would be to see him growing into a lovely, caring young man."

He described Sarah as "a wonderful, kind, loving mother and wife."

Sarah was a special needs teaching assistant at Hazelbeck School in Bingley.

He said: "She was truly loved by the children she looked after and all the staff, always smiling and felt a massive sense of achievement in helping the children in all aspects of their lives."
