POLICE have said a bike rider they were looking for who had 'abandoned' his bike after the chain fell off was in fact the owner after all.

Officer from Steerside Operations Team tweeted they were using body worn video footage to trace the rider of a bike in Bierley which was seen being ridden by a young teenager in a 'dangerous manner'.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire police's Steerside Enforcement Team said the bike was abandoned by the rider after the chain fell off at around 1.38pm on Saturday.

The officer has since updated his comment to state: "No need to review my BWV (body worn video) after all. We've had a call to say the bike was stolen in a burglary just before we seized it. Only problem is, the 'victim' happens to be the chap that was riding it. You can't make this stuff up. At least I know who he is now!"
