AN AIREDALE Hospital pathology manager braved the shave – just 24 hours before undergoing chemotherapy for multiple sclerosis.

Johanna Barkwith (pictured) used her hair-erasing experience to coin-in funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Her latest bout of chemotherapy was the second she’d undergone as part of her MS treatment.

“I thought if I’m going to lose my hair anyway then why not have my head shaved and Macmillan is a good cause,” said Johanna, from Sutton.

“Last time I donated my hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to children who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions, but it wasn’t long enough this time.”

Johanna was diagnosed with MS in 2003.

She has taken part in modelling – and is not letting the condition stand in her way. “When I lost my hair the first time I got to do some really amazing shoots,” she said.
