SALTAIRE-BASED Czajka Care Group is inviting people to join in its celebrations of National Care Home Open Day, this Friday, June 28.

The family-run care group will welcome people of all ages to join its residents for afternoon tea at Fairmount Nursing Home, Brookfield Care Home, and Staveley Birkleas Nursing Home – which are all in Nab Wood – at Beanlands Nursing Home in Cross Hills, and Currergate Nursing Home in Steeton.

Care Home Open Day, which is organised by the English Community Care Association, aims to create lasting relationships between care homes and their communities. Guests will be welcomed, from 10am, with a glass of prosecco or soft drink , and all five homes will be open to the public until 4pm.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, and people visiting the homes will be able to see some of the craft work and art projects that the residents have been working on throughout the year.

Czajka Care Group’s managing director, Konrad Czajka, said: “Our homes bustle with activities and events all the time, and we can’t wait to welcome friends, families, and local people to come and see what makes them so special.

“We have dedicated activities co-ordinators who help with everything from painting pots to special craft sessions, and the residents from our Brookfield Care Home have made their own special welcome board to hang in the reception for visitors to enjoy. We regularly create special displays within our homes to tie in with specific events like D-Day, Valentine’s Day and Easter - when we also helped our residents make Easter bonnets - and feel that arts and crafts play a very important role within our homes.

“We want to encourage people from our local communities to pop in and say ‘hello’. We are fortunate that we have really strong community links within Saltaire, Cross Hills, and Steeton, and we regularly raise money for many local charities.”

In Nab Wood, Fairmount Nursing Home is part of the beautiful Fairmount Park estate that includes a fantastic Clubhouse, which offers memberships for all age groups, and first-rate facilities that include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, gym, restaurant, bar, snooker table, putting green, boardroom facilities, and private function suite.

Konrad added: “We’ve recently made a significant investment in new gym equipment, including new state of the art treadmills, exercise bikes, a multi-gym, and other weights equipment. It’s the perfect place to get fit, stay healthy, and socialise with friends and family, so we can’t wait to show people round.”

In addition to The Clubhouse, Czajka also runs Fairmount Park, where a friendly retirement community of over 55s live in the purpose-built, energy efficient apartments and houses that are all built to an exceptional standard, with high quality kitchens and bathrooms.

Konrad added: “The fact we have care homes, nursing homes, retirement houses and apartments - as well as a fabulous Clubhouse - means that we are cross-generational and have so much to offer both our community and the wider community. It’s the same in Steeton, where we not only run a highly-regarded nursing home, but we have a collection of 14 exclusive three-bedroom retirement homes set within four acres of landscaped gardens, known as Currergate Mews.

“All this means we can give our residents the chance to live in the best environment for them – depending on what stage of their lives they are at. We can also make sure everyone has the opportunity to easily do what they love, whether that’s going for a swim, enjoying a meal out at The Clubhouse, playing bowls, strolling through the gardens, helping with the vegetable patch, or crafting artwork.

“We pride ourselves on our creative and flexible community, and can’t wait to share it with everyone on National Care Home Open Day.”

Czajka Care Group is a family-run business that was established in Saltaire in 1983, and operates five nursing and care homes, as well as offering a range of purpose-built retirement houses and apartments.
