HUNDREDS turned out in Aireville Park, Skipton on Sunday to enjoy a family-friendly community picnic organised by Craven District Council and Friends of Aireville Park.

Children explored the new playground while music on the bandstand came from Skipton Community Orchestra, Skipton Ukulele Club, and the community choir All Together Now.

Craft activities were provided by Selfa and there was also face-painting, henna painting, Incredible Edible activities, a ‘quiet teepee’ run by Skipton Library, and Craven Museum on Tour.

The Craven Rotters came along with their smoothie bike, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service brought a fire engine, and Keelham Farm Shop provided free fruit.

Raven Tree Top ran a slack line and Forest School activities in the den building area of the park, and North Yorkshire County Council’s Inspire Fund gave the Friends of Aireville Park a grant for some of the activities.

The event was part of the Great Get Together events which are taking place around the country, in memory of and inspired by Jo Cox MP.

Sharon Hudson, communications, customer services and partnerships manager at Craven District Council, said: “We’re delighted that so many people came along to the Great Get Together – it was a huge success.

“It was a really amazing community event, bringing together people from all walks of life to share food and enjoy some brilliant music and activities.

“We’d like to thank all the groups who came together to help organise this day and made it a really memorable event.”

Fiona Protheroe, chairperson of Friends of Aireville Park, said: “This was a real celebration of our new playground and of our communities in Skipton and beyond.

“There was a lovely atmosphere in the park with families and friends mingling together and having fun.”
