A CAR was destroyed after it caught fire on the M62 this morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on the motorway, close to where the M621 starts to come into the M62 at Junction 27, at around 8.45am.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the driver of the Peugeot 207 managed to pull the car into the hard shoulder and get out.

Firefighters from Cleckheaton and Morley were at the scene for around 30 to 40 minutes.

It's thought the fire was caused by an electrical fault. There were some delays on the motorway while the incident was dealt with.
