BRADFORD Safeguarding Boards has launched a week of activities to focus on the work undertaken by Bradford Council and other partner organisations to safeguard children, young people.

Safeguarding Week runs from today until Friday and raises awareness about safeguarding and supports partnership working.

The week brings together organisations and agencies from across the Bradford district to provide learning and development opportunities for staff and volunteers who work to safeguard adults and children.

Throughout the week there will be a number of workshops, training courses and open days across the district for professionals.

Councillor Adrian Farley, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Children and Families, said: "Safeguarding really is everyone's business and this week allows us to provide a wide range of events created to cover this important issue. The week helps us to raise awareness of ways in which we can help make the lives of children and adults safer."

Jane Booth, Chair of Bradford Safeguarding Children Board, said: "Safeguarding week provides an important way to make professional practice more effective by learning from each other. It represents a great opportunity for the Council, Police and health to work together to ensure Children and Adults’ in the district live safely."

Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), said: “This week is a great opportunity to champion one of our collective core aims, safeguarding our communities and helping to keep people safe.

“Safeguarding Week provides a real platform to raise awareness and celebrate achievements but also to identify gaps and continue to strive to improve our services.

“Safeguarding really is everyone’s business and I would urge anyone to get involved and contact their local authority to see what is on offer. Specifically to learn about protecting themselves and others, and most importantly familiarise themselves with the support services that are there for them if and when they need them."
