THOUSANDS of schoolchildren from across the Bradford district have descended on Hanson School this week, to take part in one of the biggest schools sports events in the city.

A host of schools have been taking part in the Hanson School Summer Games, which is running over three days this week and next week.

A total of 18 schools and 1,800 children are taking part in sports ranging from aquatics to rugby league, triathlon, badminton, athletics and rounders.

Organised by Hanson School’s director for sport, Alistair Young, schools taking part include Woodhouse Grove, schools in Keighley and schools from Leeds.

Mr Young said: “It is sort of like a mini-Olympics, aimed at getting as many schools and students actively involved as possible.

“We have more than 120 rugby players – and Bradford Bulls have been down helping out running the rugby league matches – 45 badminton players, and more than 1,800 students all taking part.”
