A MAJOR road in the district was closed last night due to a serious crash.

The collision happened on the A650 Bingley Road, in Nab Wood, and resulted in injuries.

In a statement this morning, West Yorkshire Police said: “Police attended Bingley Road at 7.49pm yesterday following a collision between an Audi A3 and a Toyota Yaris, close to Nab Wood Cemetery.

“The male driver of the Yaris was taken to hospital with suspected chest and leg injuries.

“A woman and child who were also in the Yaris were believed to be uninjured, but attended hospital for further assessment.

“No other injuries were reported.

“Enquiries are continuing into the collision and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 1573 of yesterday.”

Last night, PC Johnson had tweeted: “Very serious RTC on Bingley road, looking as though the road will be closed for the foreseeable due to injuries, please RT and find an alternative route. Closed in both directions.”

As news of the crash was still filtering through, Keighley Bus Company tweeted: “We have an accident on A650 Bingley Road Nab Wood between Cottingley Bar and Saltaire. We currently have a number of vehicles stuck in the traffic and Police Road Closure #theSHUTTLE #Aireline. Please bear with us while we try to find a solution.”

Just before 10pm, the bus company tweeted an update to say: “Unfortunately the road is still closed, we still have some buses stuck, but our Drivers are doing their best to divert via Nab Lane in both directions so services are getting through.”

A spokesperson for Bingley Fire Station confirmed that a crew had attended the crash.

He said that two vehicles were involved. One person was trapped, but they were subsequently extricated by the fire service.
