A LIMOUSINE used by the Queen Mother is expected to fetch thousands of pounds at auction.

The 1947 Daimler DE27 Hooper Limousine, which is 'in need of some TLC', is estimated to sell for between £8,000 and £10,000 when it goes under the hammer next month.

The car was used by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, on a number of occasions when she visited Scotland in the 1950s, a spokesman for H&H Classics auction house based in Appleton Thorn said.

The car will go on sale online at 1pm on July 3.

The rare car is anticipated to be a sought after collectors' item because of its links to royalty.

Auctioneers have described this as a chance for a new owner to acquire a 'fascinating classic which is part of Britain's automotive and royal history'.

Roger Nowell, from H&H Classics, said: "We understand that the Queen Mother used the car repeatedly on visits to Scotland during the 1950s.

"So it has an impeccable Royal provenance, and of course will be of particular interest to Scottish collectors."

The car also features a flag standard mount above the windscreen.

Made for Daimler Group chairman Sir Bernard Docker, he used the car in France but on return to the UK it was handed over to Rossleigh Ltd of Edinburgh, which held a Royal Warrant, the auction house said.

It was used by the Queen Mother when visiting Edinburgh in 1950 with the then, Princess Elizabeth, now Queen Elizabeth II.

With the registration SF1, it was used on 'many other state functions', the auction house said, adding that there was 'documentary proof' the Queen Mother used the car 'repeatedly'.

Letters and documents from the Daimler and Lanchester Owners' Club are included in the sale.
