A man who was arrested after walking round Bingley carrying a meat cleaver has been told to sort out his drinking problem.
Wayne Beetham, 34, of Kent Road, Bingley, admitted carrying an offensive weapon in a public place, Crossley Wood Road, on April 5.
He was in drink when police arrested him, and said he was borrowing it to cook for his mother.
Judge Colin Burn said it must have been “terrifying” for members of the public.
“It is pretty obvious you have a problem with alcohol which is the main trigger for your offending.”
Beetham received a two-year community order, was made subject to a three month electronically monitored curfew, and ordered to undertake six months of alcohol treatment and 30 days of rehabilitation activities to address his problems.
