A LOCAL scout group is appealing for past members to help it celebrate a very special milestone.

1st Spen Valley (St Paul's) Scout Group is understood to be one of the oldest scout groups in the area and to help it celebrate its 95th anniversary it is hosting a reunion at its Birkenshaw headquarters on Saturday June 22.

The group, which was founded in 1924 by the Rev Alexander Bellman, hopes to trace as many past members as possible to join in the celebrations which will also include a fun event for younger members with children's activities and a BBQ followed by a reunion in the evening for past and present members.

Alan Holmes, who was recently awarded the prestigious Silver Acorn for services to the group, said: “It’s going to be a great excuse for friends old and new to get back together and relive happy memories of scouting in the Spen Valley”
