PLANS for a "high density" development of four bed houses have been refused.

An application to build nine homes on a grass bank at Spinkwell Close, Undercliffe, had been submitted by Abdul Rauf.

The site, at the end of Prospect Road, is a long stretch of grassed land adjacent to a residential cul-de-sac.

The houses would be built in two blocks.

But the application was refused by Bradford Council this week.

Planning officers raised a number of concerns about the plans, pointing out the housing density was three times higher than was recommended in housing developments. They claimed the homes would "present an imposing and uncharacteristic form of development out of keeping with the scale and character of surrounding houses.

"They would not provide the adequate or proportionate living space (both internally and externally) commensurate with the needs of occupants of a 4-bed family dwelling."

Officers also said the homes "would be served from a substandard highway with insufficient footway links, no turning areas and inadequate and poorly designed off street parking arrangements."
