A CONFERENCE to raise awareness of the issues of domestic abuse is due to take place in Bradford tomorrow.

Yorkshire law firm Makin Dixon Solicitors has organised the conference which will feature a number of experts as key not speakers.

The firm and its staff has seen first hand the devastating impact that domestic abuse can have upon the victim’s life as well as their greater family unit.

The conference is designed to raise awareness of domestic abuse, protecting children and the family courts and tackle these issues head on.

Former chief of the Crown Prosecution Service for the North West, Nazir Afzal, will be the headline speaker.

Mr Afzal has spent his career protecting those at risk of harm and continues to campaign for change for the most vulnerable members of society.

Rachel Williams, who was shot by her husband after suffering 18 years of abuse at his hands, will also speak at the conference.

She is now a published author and Wales Women’s Aid Ambassador who is continuing to campaign for more transparency within the court system.

The conference and training event takes place at the Victoria Hotel, Bridge Street, Bradford, on June 13, between 9am and 1pm.

It is free to attend, although places are limited and booking is essential.
