Norman Robinson will be one of two D-Day veterans to attend a service in Skipton today to lay wreaths side by side in remembrance of the way in which everybody involved worked together at the time of the D-Day Landings, 75 years ago this year.

This will be especially poignant as Norman, a Royal Navy Telegrapher, served aboard HMS Belfast, the first Warship to fire on D-Day in support of the landing troops, which included the Duke of Wellington's regiment.

In an event to begin at Skipton Town Hall at 10.30am the 94-year-old will take his place alongside, not only a fellow veteran but also Two Burma Star holders who will also be laying wreaths of remembrance during the service. Following this there will be wreaths laid by various dignitaries including the leader of Skipton Council followed by the Mayor of Skipton.

Following the service, George Martin from the Skipton British Legion will give a short speech from the steps of the Town Hall.

Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the Town Hall by 10.30am.
