POLICE have confirmed that a man has been safely removed from a "precarious position" at Leeds railway station, after major delays this morning.

Commuters still face long delays this morning, as all trains in and out of Leeds have been delayed or cancelled, including services to Skipton, Bradford Interchange and Bradford Forster Square.

Disruption is expected to last until 3pm, Northern has said.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "At 7.03am today officers were called to Leeds station following the concern for the welfare of a person in a precarious position.

“Officers are on scene and are working to bring this incident to a safe resolution as soon as possible.

Northern said the delays are due to a "trespass incident" at the station.

British Transport Police later tweeted: "A man has now been safely removed from harm's way. We are now working with @networkrail to resume train services as soon as possible."

Keighley Bus Company has said it is running duplicate Aireline services to Leeds to try and tackle the problem, and other buses and coaches are also being put on to ferry passengers.

Emergency services are in attendance at the station.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "Network Rail and British Transport Police have closed Leeds railway station due to a vulnerable trespasser on the railway.

"The closure means that no trains are able to call at the station.  It also means that the station building itself, including the concourses, are shut.

"Anyone who was planning on travelling to, from or through Leeds today is advised to delay their journey until later.

"Passengers can keep up to date with the latest travel information by checking National Rail Enquiries or checking with their train operator.

"Network Rail and British Transport Police would like to thank all those affected for their patience."
