BRADFORD City Park will be decked out in rainbow colours once again this Saturday for Bradford Pride.

Bradford Pride is the annual celebration of the rich and diverse LGBT+ culture found in the city and across the district, and all are welcome to come along and join in the fun.

Bradford Pride will feature a host of entertainers, tribute acts and singers, which this year includes the X Factors own, Marcus Collins. This year’s main stage is sponsored by Yorkshire Building Society. There will also be a host of stalls, food and funfair rides for families.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Doreen Lee will open the event just after noon with events and shows running until 7pm.

For those looking to take a break from the festivities during the day, the Peace Museum will be open and will host a ‘Peace Out’ exhibition celebrating LGBT+ activism.

The Cake’Ole will also be serving Pride Cakes to sweet-toothed guests.

Councillor Richard Dunbar, Bradford Council’s LGBT Champion, said: “I am really excited that Bradford Pride will be returning to its natural home in City Park this year.

"As well as showcasing some amazing performers, Pride is a real reminder in the 50th year since the Stonewall Riots, that in order to see progress against oppression we need to come together, celebrate our differences and stand up for those with no voice or representation.

“Bradford is now known as one of the most LGBT+ friendly places in the UK and this will be on show on Saturday for Pride.”

The Leader of Bradford Council, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, said: “Bradford District has always had an active LGBT+ community who contribute massively to making our city the diverse, inclusive and welcoming place it is now known as across the country.

“Bradford Pride is always one of our most colourful and vibrant events that draws the crowds because it is family friendly and everyone is made to feel welcome. I am looking forward to what I know will be another special year for Bradford Pride.”

Jason Courcoux, Bradford Pride Chair: “We are delighted to be returning to City Park this year for the 14th Bradford Pride. We are proud to be a community based pride that focuses on remembering the struggles of our community as well as celebrating our contributions to making society more accepting and inclusive.

“Bradford Pride is a family friendly event and we would actively encourage people from all across the district and further afield to join in what is going to be a great day.”

Jane Crowther, Diversity and Inclusion Manager for the main stage sponsors, Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We are delighted to be backing Bradford Pride again this year. Yorkshire Building Society supports the LGBTQ+ community and Pride events are a place where our colleagues, members and the people of Bradford can celebrate their identity. We are proud to promote awareness of equality and our aim is for everyone at the Society and the communities we serve to feel valued and respected for being themselves.

“Pride has made huge strides in securing rights and fairer representation for LGBTQ+ people and plays an important role in providing a platform from which the community can speak out against discrimination and prejudice.”

Bradford Pride 2019 is a free event. All are invited to attend, however anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Alcohol cannot be brought into the event space but can be purchased from the official bar in the event area.
