THE owner of a house in Laisterdyke who failed to remove accumulated rubbish from its garden has been ordered to pay over £1,700.

Bradford Magistrates Court was told that a Bradford Council warden visited the house, in Wensleydale Road last summer after receiving a complaint of accumulated rubbish.

In the front garden of the house the warden reported between 30 and 35 bin bags of rubbish, a mattress, a bed base, sofas and other household waste.

More rubbish, including bin liners, furniture and carpets were seen in the back garden.

The ownership of the house was traced to Shaheen Sana, of Woodall Lane, Pudsey. She was served with a Community Protection Warning Letter requiring the removal of all the rubbish within a week.

When an enforcement officer subsequently visited the property, bin bags had been removed but the other rubbish was still there. Ms Sana was then issued with a Community Protection Notice requiring the rubbish to be removed.

The court was told that the Notice had not been complied with and that Ms Sana had not removed the rubbish nor contacted the Bradford Council when invited to do so in relation to the alleged offence.

Ms Sana was found guilty in her absence of non-compliance of a Community Protection Notice (24 May) and fined £440 with £1,301 costs and ordered to pay £30 Victim Surcharge.

After the case, Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “Everyone has a duty to ensure their property is not an eyesore and people should behave responsibly without having to be warned after complaints by their neighbours.

“We are prepared to advise anyone who wants to do the right thing about rubbish dumped on their property, but if they ignore repeated warnings and continue to blight their neighbourhood without considering the anti-social effect their mess has on other people, then we won’t hesitate to put them before the courts.”
