'OH I do like to be beside the seaside' goes the famous British music hall song....

The excitement of seeing the sea and building sand castles on the beach is beckoning as we head into the warmer months - but we don't have to wait that long to experience summer.......

'Sun, Sea & Sand @ Salts' is a new summer showcase bringing the beach to Saltaire's iconic mill created by the entrepreneur and philanthropist, Sir Titus Salt and re-purposed for a modern day population into a cultural hub by the late Jonathan Silver.

Featuring the work of six talented jewellers, the exhibition hosted by Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery, showcases hand crafted collections capturing the sensations of summer.

Among the creations are Anthony Blakeney's precious rings scattered with sparkling diamonds and colourful gemstones. Golden 'sun kissed' faces are hand engraved onto his silver 'Rose Root' rings.

Antonella Giomarelli's current collection preserves the delicate details of washed up shells and fossils through the process of casting, while Francesca Marcenaro's unique process of glass granulation combined with precious pearls echoes the ocean.

Inspired by the rugged cliffs of Cornwall, Justin Duance casts precious recycled metal in beach sand to create his organically textured rings set with glistening diamonds.

Becca Macdonald's hand-painted silver brushstroke brooches and earrings express the motion of crashing waves and her unique paint pot pieces evoke a sense of liquid silver rock pools, while Beth Pegler's nautical knot necklaces feature a strikingly colourful seaside palette - statement yet comfortable pieces - perfect for a holiday.

Launched in 1996, by Kath Libbert, the Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery specialises solely in contemporary jewellery, silver and metalsmithing and showcases diverse collections by more than 70 renowned designers and emerging talents from Britain and abroad.

"It's a bit of a holidaying at home idea. There are lots of great fun things to do on your doorstep," says Kath, referring to the latest exhibition.

She explains the selected pieces have a lovely story behind them such as the sand from a particular beach in Cornwall used by Cornwall-based jeweller Justin Duance and Francesca Marcenaro's glass granulation process.

"We like to do things that are uplifting so it's all the fun of the seaside, a good day out," says Kath.

Adding: "Salts Mill is such a lovely place to visit and this is an additional lure for people - if they can't get to the beach this summer they can get to the seaside at Saltaire. It's cheerful and good to raise the spirits."

The exhibition runs from June 9 until September 1 2019. For more information visit www.kathlibbertjewellery.co.uk; www.saltsmill.org.uk or call the gallery on 01274 599790.
