THE new £3.1 million Canal Road Cycleway from Shipley to Bradford will be officially opened this weekend.
The 1.4 mile route provides the missing link of cycling infrastructure between Shipley and the city centre, providing cyclists with a safe route through the district.
Constructed as part of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s £60 million CityConnect programme, the cycleway aims to encourage more people to travel by bicycle or on foot.
The route runs along Hillam Road, Bolton Lane and Valley Road, coming to an end in the city centre in Lower Kirkgate, close to the Bradford Forster Square railway station.

It also links to the existing Canal Road Greenway, and continues on to Shipley where it terminates.
It also provides a link to the Bradford-Leeds Cycle Superhighway, which offers pedallers an easier route between the cities.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, executive member for regeneration, planning and transport will be on hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon and declare the route open, alongside head of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s transport committee Cllr Kim Groves, in the city centre at 10am.
