A MAN has been jailed for breaching a suspended sentence after harassing his ex-partner.

Osman Awan, 36, of Pearson Lane, Bradford, appeared before Bradford Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced.

The court heard he and his ex-partner split up in February. On one occasion after their relationship broke down, he went to her address and stayed there for four hours, refusing to leave.

He also rang and messaged her asking to rekindle the relationship. Between February 12 and 27, he sent 400 messages.

The court heard he also messaged her sister saying he would kill himself and his ex-partner if she did not go back to him.

A victim impact statement highlighted the impact on the woman - she had to hand her notice and work was unable to sleep properly, especially when the harassment became more persistent.

In mitigation, the court heard Awan had difficulty accepting the relationship had ended. It was said he now wants put things right and move forward.

He was in breach of a suspended sentence for an incident which involved an assault on the same woman and an assault on a police officer, who was left with a serious injury as a result. Awan was jailed for a total of eight months.
