A PHONE mast at a Bradford school could soon be upgraded to 5G if new plans are approved.

Phone company EE has applied for planning permission to upgrade the telecommunications mast on the grounds of Laisterdyke Leadership Academy.

It is one of a number of new applications that have been submitted in recent weeks to upgrade equipment in preparation for the rollout of faster 5G mobile phone networks across the country.

5G is expected to provide much faster download speeds for mobile phones and other wireless technology.

A decision on the application is expected late next month.

Other applications recently submitted to the Council to upgrade existing equipment into 5G masts include at Idle Cricket Club, at the top of Jowitt House at 153 Sunbridge Road, on New Devonshire House, Devonshire Street, Keighley, North Park Road in Bradford, and Airedale House on Canal Road.

The applications say: “5G has to be deployed smoothly and effectively, and as such many existing rooftop and stand alone greenfield towers will need to be upgraded and redeveloped to accommodate new equipment and antennas.”
