In an open letter to popstar Miley Cyrus who will be performing in Middlesbrough for the BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, The Northern Echo invites her to sample the sights and delights of Teesside during her stay.

Alright Miley,

Welcome to Boro. It’s great to see you here in the North-East and we can guarantee you a very warm welcome, even if the weather’s not that hot.

We think you’re going to love it here and everyone will make you feel right at home. Hopefully you’ll get some free time to explore our corner of the world, so we’ve come up with a few things to do in Middlesbrough.

First on the list has to be scaling the fabulous Roseberry Topping. It’s only 20 minutes down the road from Stewart Park and it’s the perfect place to sing The Climb. The hill is very distinctive, so you can’t really miss it.

Next up, we thought you’d like to explore the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum with your husband, Liam Hemsworth. Since he’s Australian, he might be interested to know Captain James Cook – who made the first recorded European contact with eastern Oz – was born right here.

The Northern Echo: Miley, you have to try a legendary parmo!Miley, you have to try a legendary parmo!

You can snap some Instagram-worthy pictures around Teessaurus Park – but we all call it Dinosaur Park – before picking up a legendary parmo from literally any takeaway in town. Seriously, you have to try it.

We know you’re an animal lover, so Newham Grange Country Farm or RSPB Saltholme might be good places to go between sets to chill out.

And to truly end your trip to Middlesbrough in style, you have to go to the Tees Transporter Bridge. It’s iconic and means a lot to people here.

It’s £1.50 to go across the river, but we recommend going up the bridge instead. Although the Wrecking Ball days are long behind you, a bungee jump from the top would be a pretty creative way to re-enact your video – just a thought.

We hope you have a fantastic time performing at Radio 1’s Big Weekend and we can’t wait to meet you. See you soon and remember – Up The Boro.
