A FAMILY butchers in Cleckheaton is celebrating after receiving its first national award for its popular pork stand pie.
B&M Collins & Sons picked up a trophy for the Best Cold Eating Pie at The Great British Butchers Awards in Harrogate at the weekend.
The shop, which has spent 41 years on the same street, had its pie first shortlisted for the award all the way in Shropshire before reaching the final stage.
The team waited patiently on the grounds of the Great Yorkshire Show while a panel of seasoned butchers deliberated in secret.
Mary Johnson, one of three siblings at the firm, said: “
“A lot of people say they're (the stand pies) really consistent. They really are popular at Christmas. They look nice and we think they're good.”
Now Mary is ready to get back to work with mum Margorie Collins and brothers John and Michael before signing up for more awards.
Mary said: “We'll keep trying. It's a big one is this.”
