FORMER Queen's School student and Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle has given birth to her first child.

Little Freya Allen was born on Thursday (May 16) and Beth and husband Andy are said to be delighted.

Beth, from Bunbury, tweeted today (Monday, May 20): “Exciting news! Andy and I are delighted to welcome and introduce Freya Allen to the world. Born 16th May, both her and I are doing well.

“What an unbelievable feeling and we're looking forward to the amazing journey ahead x.”

The news comes after a turbulent few years for the gymnastics star after she suffered a spinal injury while competing in Channel 4 show The Jump in 2016.

The Standard reported in January this year that she had initiated legal proceedings against the makers of the show.

At the time her lawyers said: “While training for The Jump TV show, Beth suffered severe injuries including two fractured vertebrae requiring serious surgery on her spinal cord.

"She has had to put many parts of her life and career on hold and, while Beth is making a good recovery, she still cannot do many of the things she previously could as an elite athlete and may never fully recover.”

People have been quick to congratulate the new mum on social media.

British Gymnastics tweeted: “What wonderful news to start off the week! Many congratulations to both Beth and Andy on the birth of their new baby girl!”

And TV presenter Gabby Logan wrote: “Congratulations to you all x.”
