The "People Can - Festival of Volunteering" is taking place in Bradford's City Park on Tuesday, June 4 between 11am and 3pm.

Following the success of last year’s Volunteers’ Fair, the Bradford Volunteer Centre is holding this year's festival to help celebrate Volunteers’ Week.

The event is free and you can come along at any time.

Steve Blackman, CEO of Bradford Volunteer Centre, said: “There is something for everyone.

“So whether you want to volunteer with young children, teenagers, older people, refugees or the general public, come along to the festival.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering to come along and meet local groups or find out more about what volunteering entails.”

There will be 25 local charities and community groups attending the festival, so there will be plenty going on for everyone.

There will also be entertainment over the lunchtime period, with music from the The Pantasy Steel Band, plus live DJ sets from S.O.R.M students DJ Connor & Rave Repeat.

These local musicians will bring their different styles of music to create a festival atmosphere, alongside the BCB Radio Roadshow.

Bradford has a great reputation when it comes to volunteering and people getting together to promote community action.

The People Can campaign brings together the local authority, statutory sector and voluntary sector groups.

People Can supports, promotes and enables the positive and empowering message that people in communities “can and do” make a difference to where and how we live.

You can be part of that campaign by giving a few hours of your time when you can to help others.

Latest figures show that, in England, half of all people volunteer (formally or informally) at least once a month. This translates to 20.4 million people.

This is a significant increase from 2001 (47 per cent and 18.8 million people).
