A DINOSAUR day proved to be a huge hit in Bradford yesterday, with children galore getting involved with the activities on offer.

The animatronic and interactive Dinosaur Invasion on Savoy Square in Cleckheaton was part of the Spenborough Chamber of Commerce and Trade’s Dinosaur Community Day.

The chamber's treasurer and chief fundraiser, Nichola Garland, said the event had been more popular than she could have ever imagined.

She enthused: "It was an amazing day and the response from the community was astronomical. I hadn't realised dinosaurs were so popular.

"I made the dinosaur models myself and then schools from around the area decorated them. A lot of those children came to see their creations yesterday.

"Gomersal Primary liked theirs so much they want to keep it permanently."

She added: "The Mr Men show we put on last year went really well but we were helped then by the beautiful weather, whereas I couldn't believe what I saw yesterday.

"I took a picture of Savoy Square from upstairs in a Wetherspoons and I've never seen so many people there.

"Thing is the interactive show was top notch and run by real professionals. We offered things like the show, crafts and storytelling, which I did in the tent all day, for free too.

"People could give donations if they wanted but it was just nice to be able to offer a cheap treat for everyone in the community to enjoy."

Looking ahead to the future, Ms Garland said: "The Chamber of Commerce wants to see things like this in the community so we hope to run events every May.

"The key was getting the local schools involved because if you do that, the kids come along too.

"I have to thank Tesco too, as they provided us with £1,000 worth of funding to put the event on. We couldn't have run it without them."
