WEST Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called out to a large moorland fire on Ilkley Moor this morning, less than a month after the devastating Easter Weekend fires up there.

Meanwhile West Yorkshire Police issued a statement, confirming that a woman had been arrested in connection with the incident.

It read: "Police were called to moorland at Ilkley near Hangingstone Road at about 9.55am this morning to a report of a fire and suspicious behavior by a female at the location.

"Officers attended and following enquiries arrested a 48-year-old woman present in connection with fire underway on moorland.

"Some road closures were put in place and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are attending at the scene to manage the fire."

Ten fire engines were at the blaze while it was at its worst.

The public is advised to avoid the area to allow firefighters to tackle the fire.

Fire engines were in attendance from the following stations: Keighley, Rawdon, Bingley, Killingbeck, Sildsen, Shipley, Cookridge, Fairweather Green, Stanningley and Odsal.

Area manager of the fire and rescue service, Chris Kirby, added: "This is when the training and hard work of our firefighters is needed, often for long periods of time.

"Let’s hope our crews can deal with this one quickly."

At around 12:30pm, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted that the fire was out and that the incident had been scaled back to four fire engines.

They confirmed that road closures are still in place in the area and they are working to get them open again as soon as possible.
