SAINTS coach Justin Holbrook said the injured trio of Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Mark Percival and Luke Thompson are progressing as well as expected.

All three were injured during Easter, and although Saints have coped in their absence Holbrook will be keen to have them back for the Challenge Cup quarter final against Wakefield on 1 June.

He said: “Louie, Percy and Tommo are still a couple of weeks away.

“They are going well - there are no setbacks but nothing unexpectedly good either, but we knew that would be the case.

“All three have a chance for the cup tie in June.”

In the absence of McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Thompson, Matty Lees has upped his game time since Easter.

“He is a player that has always played big minutes coming through the academy and has always played big minutes.

“Him and Tommo at start of the year were capable of playing 65 to 70 minutes if you need them to.

“Leesy was only getting short periods at the start of the year and I was holding Tommo back too.

"He could have done two stints in a lot of games but we did not do that because of the good rotation that we have got.

“Leesy has played more than we would have liked, but he is capable of doing that - which is a luxury,” Holbrook said.

Meanwhile despite newspaper reports, former Grand Final winner Josh Jones will not be making a return to Saints from Salford.

“He is a great player, but he won’t be coming back here,” Holbrook said.

He also said there are so far no updates on Theo Fages’ contract situation after he was offered a new deal from the club, but is now able to listen to offers.

And on that subject there have been no talks yet between the club and Holbrook, who is out of contract at the end of the year.

But Saints boss is pretty relaxed about the situation.

He said: “I said we would begin talks in May when asked it in the post match press conference at Easter - but if I had thought about it I should have said June really.

“So there is nothing to report yet - and I have not even spoken with Eamonn yet, but that is not good or bad either way.”
